CARVYKTI Shows 69% Five-Year Survival in Blood Cancer Patients

Legend Biotech has presented five-year follow-up data on CARVYKTI, its CAR-T cell therapy for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM), showing that half of treated patients remained free of disease progression and alive five years after receiving a single infusion of the therapy.
The overall survival rate at the five-year mark reached 69.2%, according to data presented by the company. The figures add to an expanding body of long-term clinical evidence that researchers and the company say supports the potential for CARVYKTI to offer durable, possibly curative outcomes in earlier lines of myeloma treatment.

Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow and remains difficult to treat, particularly after patients have relapsed or stopped responding to standard therapies. CAR-T treatments like CARVYKTI work by engineering a patient's own immune cells to recognize and attack cancer cells, representing a fundamentally different approach from conventional chemotherapy or drug regimens.
The five-year milestone is significant in oncology, where long-term progression-free survival data are rare for heavily pretreated patient populations. Legend Biotech's latest readout positions CARVYKTI among a small number of therapies with documented durable responses at this time horizon in RRMM, potentially strengthening the case for its use earlier in the treatment sequence rather than as a last resort.
